Description

Definition
For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRET3 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a nongovernmental organization (NGO) health facility. This response category is country-specific to Ethiopia.

Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

For the 2000 Ethiopian sample, DIATRET3 is combined with DIATRET4 (NGO Community-based outlet) and DIATRET6 (Other NGO) in DIATRNGO (all nongovernmental organizations).

Additionally, for the 2011 Ethiopian sample, DIATRET3 is combined with DIATRET5 (Volunteer community health worker (VCHW)) in DIATRNGO.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRET3 are encouraged to review DIATRNGO for a more comprehensive response category for these two samples.
