Description

Definition
For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRNG1 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a traditional healer. This response category is country-specific to Nigeria.

Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DIATRNG1 is combined with DIATRNG2 (Spiritual healer) in DIATRPRIVHL (all traditional healers) for the 1999 Nigeria sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRNG1 are encouraged to review DIATRPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.
