<p><svar a="all" v="MY91A411"><span class="h3">Question C11</span><br />[Question C11 of the enumeration form is not presented here.]<br /><br /><span class="em">Definition</span><br /><span class="em">Schooling</span><br />The definition "schooling" means that a person has attended any of the educational institutions that provide formal education.<br /><br />Formal education means that the educational system has:<br /><div class="i1">i) Student registration<br />ii) Fixed curriculum<br />iii) Fixed educational centers<br />iv) Provided by permanent agencies.</div><br /><br /><span class="pg">[p.127]</span><br /><br />Educational institutions include:<br /><div class="i1">(i) Pre-school institution such as kindergarten<br />(ii) Schools (primary and secondary)<br />(iii) College/polytechnic<br />(iv) University</div><br />The educational institutions include public as well as private sector.<br /><br />The following categories are excluded in formal education:<br /><div class="i1">(i) In-service courses<br />(ii) Religious classes/hut<br />(iii) Self-study/education through mail, television, video, etc.<br />(iv) Schools or institutions which only provide basic training in skills such as business education, typing, tailoring, sewing, etc.<br />(v) Adult schools.</div><br />How to ask the question<br /><div class="i1">Ask the question as follows:<br /><span class="ital">"Has ____ (member's name) ever been to school?"</span></div><br /><br />How to record the answer<br />If the answer is "Yes", you are to mark (X) in Code 1 box.<br /><span class="em">If the answer is "Never attended school", you are to mark (X) in Code 2 box and go to Question C15.</span><br /></svar>
