Data were collected in the following nine regions: Gao, Kayes, Kidal, Koulikoro, Ménaka, Mopti, Ségou, Sikasso and Tombouctou, with the exception of the urban region of Bamako. The survey is representative at a regional scale and the sampling plan was designed with a margin of error of 10 percent.
Weights were applied on the basis of population size and a wealth indicator (access to toilets) was used.
