Description

Definition
GEO_BF1993 (V101_BF1993) indicates the region of Burkina Faso where the respondent was interviewed. DHS units in the 1993 Burkina Faso survey are equivalent to grouped provinces with the capital remaining an autonomous region.

Other sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. There is also an integrated variable, GEO_BF2003_2010, that provides spatially consistent units over time. The Burkina Faso 1993 sample is excluded from GEO_BF2003_2010 due to inconsistent boundaries.

A GIS map for GEO_BF1993 (in shapefile format) can be downloaded from the DHS Program Spatial Data Repository [URL omitted from DDI.] Boundaries page.
