The Public Opinion Research Group surveyed 29 countries in FY2012 (July 2011-June 2012) and 41 countries in FY2013 (July 2012-June 2013). In FY2014, surveys were conducted in 42 countries and in FY2015 - in 35 countries. Nearly all of the World Bank Group's client countries are surveyed in 3-year cycles. v01, edited anonymous dataset for public distribution Coding schemes of output data: - Single-choice questions: Response options are coded according to corresponding numbers in the questionnaire. - Multiple-choice questions: When a response option is checked, it is coded as "1," when a response option is not checked, it is coded as "0." - 10-point scale questions: "1" corresponds to the lowest value, "10" corresponds to the highest value. "Don't know" is coded as "11." - Yes/No questions: "Yes" is coded as "1," "No" is coded as "2." The Country Opinion Survey in Lao PDR assists the World Bank Group (WBG) in gaining a better understanding of how stakeholders in Lao PDR perceive the WBG. It provides the WBG with systematic feedback from national and local governments, multilateral/bilateral agencies, media, academia, the private sector, and civil society in Lao PDR on: 1) their views regarding the general environment in Lao PDR; 2) their overall attitudes toward the WBG in Lao PDR; 3) overall impressions of the WBG’s effectiveness and results, knowledge work and activities, and communication and information sharing in Lao PDR; 4) their perceptions of the WBG’s future role in Lao PDR. Lao PDR Stakeholders of the World Bank Group in Lao PDR The scope of the study includes: - General issues facing Lao PDR - Overall attitudes toward the World Bank Group - World Bank Group's effectiveness and results - The World Bank Group's knowledge work and activities - Working with the World Bank Group - Specific project/program related issues - The future role of the World Bank Group in Lao PDR - Communication and information sharing - Background information Indochina Research Laos (IRL) From June to July 2015, 657 stakeholders of the WBG in Lao PDR were invited to provide their opinions on the WBG's work in the country by participating in a country opinion survey. Participants were drawn from the Presidential Office; the Government's Office; the National Assembly; ministries/ministerial departments; Project Management Units (PMUs) overseeing implementation of WBG projects; consultants/contractors working on WBG-supported projects/ programs; local governments; bilateral/multilateral agencies; private sector organizations; the financial sector/private banks; non-profit organizations/community based organizations; the media; independent government institutions; trade unions; youth groups; academia/research institutes/think tanks; the judiciary branch; non-profit associations (NPAs); and other organizations. A total of 296 stakeholders participated in the survey (45% response rate). Mail Questionnaire [mail] English The results of FY2015 Country Survey were compared to those in the Country Survey conducted in FY2012 (response rate is 52%, N=532). Data were weighted to reach the same stakeholder composition in two years, which allows for year comparisons. Stakeholder groups which were not present in both fiscal years were not included in the comparison. Respondents who belonged to the “other” stakeholder category were not included either. As a result, means of the FY’15 data and the total number of respondents in both years are slightly different from those of the original data reported in appendices A, B, C, and E in the report.
