Depuis cette date, aucune autre enquête nationale n’avait été réalisée dans le pays. Depuis 1997, la prévalence du VIH/sida dans la population générale n’est estimée qu’à travers des projections réalisées à partir des données de surveillances sentinelles du VIH/sida, collectées auprès des femmes enceintes, se présentant en consultations prénatales dans certains centres de santé. Pour obtenir des données récentes et plus précises sur la situation du VIH/sida en Côte d’Ivoire, le ministère de la Lutte contre le Sida et les partenaires nationaux et internationaux ont entrepris de réaliser une Enquête sur les Indicateurs du Sida en Côte d’Ivoire (EIS-CI) de septembre 2004 à octobre 2005.
