The most recent large-scale influx of Malians occurred in 2012, and resulted in the creation of the Mbera camp, which today hosts around 75,000 refugees. Because the large-scale return of Malians is not yet a viable option, Mauritania has committed itself to a policy of inclusion. It thus requested support from the UNHCR-WFP Targeting Hub to facilitate the inclusion of Malian refugees in the national social registry. Accordingly, the two UN agencies assisted Mauritania\u2019s National Social Registry to conduct a socio-economic census to identify the most vulnerable households to target for prioritized assistance. Around 14,000 households were interviewed.\n\nThe purpose of the census was to:\n- Collect socio-economic information on all refugees in Bassikounou to understand needs at household level\n- Categorize refugee households based on their degree of vulnerability to inform programmatic decisions and joint targeting approaches\n- Include all refugees in the national Social Registry\n- Identify and include the most vulnerable refugees in the national social protection scheme, Tekavoul","coll_dates":[{"start":"2021-04-27","end":"2021-06-16","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Mauritania","abbreviation":"MRT"}],"geog_coverage":"Mbera refugee camp (98.5%), Bassikounou (0.4%), El Megve (1.1%)","analysis_unit":"Household and member","data_kind":"Census\/enumeration data [cen]","notes":"The scope includes:\n- household and member demographics\n- dwelling characteristics\n- employment and livelihood\n- food consumption","ex_post_evaluation":{"completion_date":"","type":""}},"method":{"data_collection":{"data_collectors":[{"name":"Mauritania's Social Registry","abbreviation":"","affiliation":""}],"collector_training":[{"training":"","type":""}],"sample_frame":{"frame_unit":{"is_primary":"","num_of_units":""}},"coll_mode":["Computer Assisted Personal Interview [capi]"],"research_instrument":"Questionnaire contained the following sections: household demographics, employment, asset ownership and shelter, food consumption, livelihood coping, expenditure, community participation.","instru_development_type":""},"data_processing_type":""},"data_access":{"dataset_availability":{"access_place":"","access_place_uri":"","original_archive":"United Nations Refugee Agency Microdata Library\nhttps:\/\/microdata.unhcr.org\/index.php\/catalog\/669 \nOriginal Archive Study ID: UNHCR_MRT_2021_NSR_v2.1\nCost: None"},"dataset_use":{"cit_req":"Mauritania's Social Registry, UNHCR, WFP (2021).
