The main objective of the survey is to assess the intention of, and impediments to, refugees returning to their place of origin or habitual places of residence in their respective countries of origin. The targeted population was South Sudanese and Sudanese refugees arrived in asylum countries from 1 January 2014 onwards, from which data was collected through key informants interviews and household questionnaires. All participating countries used the same questionnaire. Data collection was conducted concurrently between November 2021 and July 2022 in the four countries, using Kobo Toolkit. This dataset is the anonymized version of the original data.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2021-11-01","end":"2022-07-01","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"South Sudan","abbreviation":"SSD"},{"name":"Sudan","abbreviation":"SDN"},{"name":"Uganda","abbreviation":"UGA"},{"name":"Ethiopia","abbreviation":"ETH"}],"geog_coverage":"Nationally representative of registered refugee population in Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, South Sudan","analysis_unit":"Households","universe":"All registered refugee households in Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"The scope includes:\n- Identification and consent\n- Demographics\n- Reasons for flight\n- Documentation\n- Intentions to return\n- Local integration\n- Knowledge of Sudanese Law"},"method":{"data_collection":{"data_collectors":[{"name":"UN Refugee Agency","abbr":"UNHCR","role":"","affiliation":"UN"}],"sampling_procedure":"The sampling approach aimed to generate a random and representative sample of the overall population of South Sudan and Sudan refugees in four countries of asylum i.e., Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Sudan, with 95% confidence level and 5% margin of error. The representative sample of the population was calculated based on the number of registered households, not the number of individuals. The total number of households was obtained from UNHCR\u2019s registration database, proGres. The specific households to be surveyed were then identified using systematic random sampling until the sample size was attained for each location. Then, one individual respondent from the identified households will be selected through simple random sampling. The respondent spoke on their own behalf and not on behalf of the household.","coll_mode":["Face-to-face [f2f]"],"coll_situation":"In order to adapt to COVID-19-related protocols, both in-person and remote data collection were possible. Most countries collected data in person, with enumerators asking the questions face-to-face to respondents, except for Uganda. In this country, enumerators interviewed respondents over phone calls, entering their answers into KoBo Toolbox. It is important to note that the interview mode might affect respondents\u2019 answers particularly to sensitive questions"}},"data_access":{"dataset_use":{"cit_req":"UNHCR (2022).
