Data was collected through a phone bank, where enumerators called randomly selected UNHCR-registered refugees living in the host communities of the 3 governorates of the KR-I: Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah. The random sample was drawn using a registration list provided by UNHCR, with samples sizes determined so that a certain level of representativeness could be obtained.
The questionnaire contained the following sections: household demographics, information about the head of this household, education, protection, livelihoods, social cohesion, shelter, WASH, food security, health, intentions, communication, basic needs.
