    Abstract
This lab-in-field study was embedded in an endline survey for the Second Agricultural Project (AGP2) impact evaluation in 2023. It was also administered as a separate module in later months. The endline survey was administered to farming couples in Ethiopia. At the end of the survey, the couples were invited to participate in a short experiment. Either the husband or wife is randomly assigned a decision-maker role and provided an endowment. The other spouse is then randomly provided either 0,50,or 100 Ethiopian Birr. The decision-maker is then shown an investment video for two seeds that would generate a return. They are then asked what their willingness to pay is for the other spouse to watch the video. The other spouse is then randomly invited to watch the video as well. Regardless of the other spouse watching the video, the couple must come together and discuss and then indicate how much of their endowment they would like to contribute towards the investment after which the enumerator hands the payout to the decision-maker. The outcomes for this experiment are the total amount invested and the contribution from the non-decision-making spouse.

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The sample for this is drawn from the sampling frame of an impact evaluation of the Second Agricultural Project (AGP2). At baseline in 2021, eligible kebeles were selected based on AGP2 coverage and minimum agricultural household thresholds. As the intervention was provided to development groups, a list of development groups for each kebele was obtained. A listing exercise was then carried out where each member household of the development group was interviewed to determine eligibility for the baseline survey, which was: agricultural households with couples (married or cohabiting) where the woman is pregnant or has a child under age 2. The survey was then conducted with 3 eligible households per 5 groups in kebele (n=15 per cluster). At endline and for this survey experiment, all households interviewed at baseline were meant to be re-interviewed. However, due to insecurity in Amhara, only 1,130 households were re-interviewed from other sample regions. 478 additional households who were listed but not interviewed at baseline were also interviewed, with an additional 140 not listed. This resulted in a total sample size of 1,748 individuals.
