How to ask the question:</span><br />What is the person's relationship to the head of household?<br /><br />The association between the persons recognized as the head of household and all of the household members is required. This association can be through a family relationship (spouse, child, etc.) or through another cause (domestic employee or other non-relative).<br /><br /><span class="em">b. How to record the information:</span></div><br /><div class="i2">1) First, an "X" is marked in the box located after the word "<span class="em">Head</span>". This person's information is always in the first column of the census form.<br /><br />2) An "X" is marked in the box corresponding to the relationship of each of the household members.<br /><br />3) An "X" is marked in the box "Unknown" only when the informant does not know the relationship between a household member and head of household. These cases are, obviously, exceptions.</div><br /><br /><div class="i1"><span class="em">c.
