Question I. Relation to the person recorded No 1 in the household
The enumerator is to encircle the code corresponding to one of the prompts proposed.
For the household member recorded first code 1 "person recorded No 1 (reference person)" is to be encircled; for all other household members ? the code corresponding to one of the prompts proposed. For instance, if the person interviewed is the son (natural, adopted or stepson) of the reference person, code 3 is to be encircled, which corresponds to the prompt "daughter, son." If the person questioned has a different filiation to the reference member (other than those mentioned (e.g. nephew)), code 10 is to be encircled, which corresponds to the prompt "other relation degree."
If a household comprises one person, only code 1 "reference person" is to be encircled.
Persons living in a given household, but being not related to any household member either by blood or by law (e.g., nanny or servant living in the household and contributing to it) are to be marked with code 11 "non-relative".
For each household member (regardless of the age and marital status) living in the same household with both parents or one of them, the serial number of his (her) mother within the dwelling, i.e. the number indicated against her name in Form 1 "Enumeration form - List of residents" (column 1), is to be recorded in a special box. If there is no mother in the household, the number of father is to be entered. If there is neither mother nor father within the household, the box is not to be filled in.
For the population of collective households:
For the person recorded in Form 1 "Enumeration form - List of residents" under 1, code 1 is to be encircled, which corresponds to the prompt "reference person", for all other persons ? "non-relative."
If among members of a collective household there are people related to each other (e.g. husband and wife in a boarding house for the aged and disabled or brother and sister in a children's home), then one of those people should be recorded No 1 in the dwelling and the other ? No 2 with specification of how he/she is related to person No 1 in a usual way and all remaining persons are to be recorded after these two and marked under "non-relative."
For temporary residents in question 1 code 1 «reference person» is to be encircled irrespective of their degree of relation to permanent residents in the dwelling.
If two or more related persons are temporary residents, they are considered a household consisting of two or more members. In this case for one of them code 1 «reference person» is to be encircled and for the other the codes corresponding to their relation degree are to be marked.
