Consortia of firm and research entity
v01, edited, anonymous datasets for public distribution
To replicate results published in "Can grants to consortia spur innovation and science-industry collaboration? Regression-discontinuity evidence from Poland" by Miriam Bruhn and David McKenzie, World Bank Economic Review, users can download a Stata do-file available in Related Materials.
In the external World Bank Microdata Library (microdata.worldbank.org), the datasets are distributed in Stata 14 and Stata 11 formats (along with other formats). In Stata 11 version, the names of the data files have …v11 added to the original, Stata 14, file names. Stata 14 and Stata 11 datasets are the same except in Stata 11, some string variables were recast to make them shorter.

The sample consisted of applicants to the In-Tech program. The sample frame for the survey was all projects with scores within the selected bandwidth of 8 points on either side of the funding cutoff. For each project, an attempt was made to interview the leader of the consortia, and the main partner. When there were two or more partners in the consortia, the main partner was defined as the one who received the highest budget share among all partners to the project. The research team therefore received up to two responses per project. The team aggregated these responses up to the project level for analysis.
Overall, responses were received for 87.1 percent of projects, including 93.7 percent of funded projects and 83.7 percent of non-funded projects.
In collaboration with Poland's National Center for Research and Development (NCBiR) staff, World Bank researchers designed a follow-up survey questionnaire of In-Tech applicants. The questionnaire asked specifically about the project that was the focus of their In-Tech application, whether this project had been started, whether it had been completed, and what the outputs were. It also asked about forms of collaboration, research and development, and commercialization activities for other projects.
