Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADBD8 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a private unqualified doctor for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADBD8 is combined with STIADBD6 (private hospital/clinic), STIADBD7 (private qualified doctor), and STIADBD9 (private medical college hospital) in STIADPRIVHOS (all private hospitals, clinics, and doctors) for the 2011 Bangladesh sample. Additionally, STIADBD8 is combined with STIADBD6 and STIADBD7 in STIADPRIVHOS for the 2014 Bangladesh sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADBD8 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
