Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADBD6 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a private hospital/clinic for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADBD6 is combined with STIADBD7 (private qualified doctor), STIADBD8 (private unqualified doctor), and STIADBD9 (private medical college hospital) in STIADPRIVHOS (all private hospitals, clinics, and doctors) for the 2011 Bangladesh sample. Additionally, STIADBD6 is combined with STIADBD7 and STIADBD8 in STIADPRIVHOS for the 2014 Bangladesh sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADBD6 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
