Description

Definition

For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCBD5_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care from a private "unqualified [traditional] doctor." This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.

Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANCBD5_01 is combined with ANCBD4_01 (private "qualified doctor") in ANCPRIVDR_01 (all private doctors) for the 2007, 2011, and 2014 Bangladesh samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCBD5_01 are encouraged to review ANCPRIVDR_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
