Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADEG5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public teaching hospital for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Egypt.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADEG5 is combined with STIADEG1 (public urban hospital), STIADEG2 (public rural hospital), and STIADEG4 (public university hospital) in STIADPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2005 Egypt sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADEG5 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
