Definition
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during a pregnancy, ANCEG3_ALL indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving such care at a public "urban health unit." This response category is country-specific to Egypt.
ANCEG3_ALL consists of a set of up to six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (ANCEG3_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., ANCEG3_02, ANCEG3_03, ANCEG3_04, ANCEG3_05, and ANCEG3_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If ANCEG3_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCEG3_ALL is combined with ANCEG4_ALL (public rural health unit) in ANCPUBHC_01 (all public health centers) for the 2005, 2008, and 2014 Egypt samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCEG3_ALL are encouraged to review ANCPUBHC_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
