Interviewer instructions
Diarrhoea is determined by the perception of the mother or caretaker, or by three or more loose or watery stools per day, or by blood in stool. When asking this question, insert the name of the day of the interview. For example, if the interview is taking place on a Tuesday, ask: "HAS (name) HAD DIARRHOEA IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, THAT IS, SINCE TUESDAY OF THE WEEK BEFORE LAST?" Record the mother's/primary caretaker's answer. If a respondent is not sure what is meant by diarrhoea, tell her/him it means "THREE OR MORE LOOSE OR WATERY STOOLS PER DAY, OR BLOOD IN THE STOOL." If the child has not had diarrhoea in the last 2 weeks or the caretaker doesn't know, record the code corresponding and skip to CA5.
