When [NAME] had an illness with a cough, did he/she breathe faster than usual with short, quick breaths or have difficulty breathing?
Interviewer instructions
The question aims to find out if the child has or had an illness needing assessment by a health professional (as defined by the CDC/IMCI. If the respondent asks "What do you mean by 'fast breathing'?" you may say "NOTICEABLY FASTER THAN NORMAL WHEN THE CHILD IS RESTED." If the respondent asks "What do you mean by 'difficulty breathing'?" you may say "THE CHILD SOUNDED/LOOKED AS IF HE/SHE WAS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING." Record the code corresponding to the response. If the answer is 'Yes', continue to CA7. Otherwise, skip to CA12.
