For respondents who reported earning cash for their work, WKINCOME (V736) is an 8-digit numeric variable that reports the usual amount the respondent earns in cash.
The first digit gives the units in which the amount was specified, while the remaining 7 digits give the total amount. The first digit, or units digit, is coded as follows:
1 indicates earnings per hour
2 indicates earnings per day
3 indicates earnings per week
4 indicates earnings per month
5 indicates earnings per year
For example, 30000400 would indicate that the respondent received 400 per week. The currency and units of currency used are both country-specific.
