Definition
DISTRICTIA indicates the district of India where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the specific districts and the modern geographic units (states) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable:
GEO_IA1992
GEO_IA1998
GEO_IA2005
GEO_IA2015
GEOALT_IA2015
DISTRICTIA is similar to GEOALT_IA2015, with the addition of state headings and additional samples.
IPUMS-DHS users should note that the India 2005 does not contain district level information due to confidentiality requirements of HIV testing.
