Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADMW4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public health surveillance assistant (HSA) for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Malawi.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADMW4 is combined with STIADMW3 (public "door to door") in STIADPUBFW (all public fieldworkers) for the 2010 Malawi sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADMW4 are encouraged to review STIADPUBFW for a more comprehensive response category.
