Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADMM1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from Marie Stopes International, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that provides contraception and safe abortion to women in urban and rural communities. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADMM1 is combined with STIADMM2 (Myanmar Red Cross), STIADMM3 (Population Services International/Myanmar [PSI/M]), STIADMM4 (Myanmar Medical Association), and STIADMM5 (other NGO) in STIADNGO (all NGOs) for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADMM1 are encouraged to review STIADNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
