Description

Definition
GEO_NP1996 (V101_NP1996) reports the region of Nepal where the respondent was interviewed, with development regions as the units. Prior to September 2015, development regions were the first-level administrative divisions for Nepal.

Other sample years for Nepal have their own sample-specific geography variables. The 1996 Nepal sample is included in integrated geographic variables, GEO_NP1996_2016, GEO_NP1996_2011, and GEOALT_NP1996_2016, which provide spatially consistent units over time.

A GIS map for GEO_NP1996 (in shapefile format) can be downloaded from the DHS Program Spatial Data Repository [URL omitted from DDI.] Boundaries page.
