Definition
For children with a fever or cough in the past 2 weeks, FEVTRPK5 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a "dai/traditional birth attendant." This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FEVTR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FEVTRPK5 is combined with other traditional practitioners and healers in the 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan surveys:
In the 2006 and 2012 Pakistan samples, FEVTRPK5 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath) and FEVTRPK4 (hakim) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers).
In the 2017 Pakistan sample, FEVTRPK5 is combined with FEVTRPK3 (homeopath), FEVTRPK4 (hakim), and FEVTRPPK11 (community midwife) in FEVTRPRIVHL (all traditional practitioners/healers).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FEVTRPK5 are encouraged to review FEVTRPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category for these two samples.
