Definition
For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADZA2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a traditional healer for this problem. This response category is country-specific to South Africa.
Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
STIADZA2 is combined with STIADZA1 (traditional herbalist) in STIADPRIVHL (all traditional healers/herbalists) for the 2016 South Africa sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADZA2 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.
