Definition
For children born in the 3 to 5 years before the survey, VACHB0 (H50) indicates whether the child has received a hepatitis B vaccination at or near birth (sometimes called "hepatitis B 0"). The hepatitis B vaccination is frequently given as an injection in the upper left arm, often at the same time as the DPT injections or polio drops.
The hepatitis B vaccination primary series usually consists of a birth dose and 3 additional administrations. The complementary variables VACHB1 (H61), VACHB2 (H62) and VACHB3 (H63) report the first, second, and third administrations, respectively.
VACHB0 uses composite coding, with a first digit of 2 indicating the child has been vaccinated and the second digit indicating the source of information (a dated entry on the vaccination card, an undated mark on the vaccination card, or the mother's report).
